Dry Spell

Despite the downpour of rain southern california has experienced this week...this blog is having a dry spell. With that being said, please submit your requests for questions that you want me to answer in the comments of this blog entry. I need something to write about.

Mmmm..recipes?

Q: Describe one of your favorite recipes and tell where it comes from.

A: The first thing that popped into my head when seeing this prompt isn't really a "recipe" persay, its just a weird combination of foods that sometimes people look at me strangely for eating. This would be pretzels (the little hard ones, not the big soft ones) and cream cheese. The "recipe" came from my dad and who knows where he got it from. My dad always had the best snacks around. I highly suggest trying pretzels and cream cheese if you haven't before, you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

Acceptance

Q: Can you accept yourself as you are?

A: This is a difficult question for me cuz yes I can for the most part, if I couldn't I probably wouldn't be able to get out of bed every day. But there are a lot of things that I'm not willing to accept forever. I'm not willing to accept the fact that I can't do certain things because of shyness/social anxiety. I'm not willing to accept the fact that I have a hard time standing up for myself. I think everyone has little things that they won't accept about themselves forever, but its a process to get through. If we were perfectly acceptable the way we are, what fun would life be? what lessons would we learn?

Clean that up!

Q: What needs cleaning in your house?

A: Right now, our kitchen floor is looking pretty dirty. Its the type of floor where you have to get down on your hands and knees Cinderella style and scrub that puppy until you blink and you still see the floor tiles 10 minutes after finishing the floor.

Eclipse

Q: What would you do if the sun didn't rise tomorrow?

A: If the sun didn't rise tomorrow, I would probably sleep in. Then I'd get up and be really confused. I'd probably call into work and see if people showed up or not. Then, I might be a little bit worried about why the sun didn't come up. I might go on the Internet and check and see if there was supposed to be some eclipse or not. I'd probably check on the news to see if it was just happening here in Santa Barbara, or elsewhere too. It would be a cool thing to talk about for awhile though.

Quotations

Q: What is you favorite quote?

A: My favorite quote is from a french children's book called Le Petit Prince or in English, The Little Prince. Written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The quote is: "What is essential is invisible to the eye." The reason why I like this quote is I think I tend to worry about things easily, things that don't even matter when the important things like relationships are the things I should be thinking more about.

Living in a Cereal World

...and I'm a cereal girl. I think Fridays I get lazy because I forgot to do the daily blog on Friday. Anyways, here is today's entry:

Q: Write about your favorite cereal.

A: My favorite cereal is Corn Chex. Wow, I know it sounds boring, but I love Corn Chex. They don't really get soggy as fast as the flake cereals, they have a nice crunch, and nice corn taste. Mmmm. Now, Rice Chex, for some reason doesn't really do it for me, I feel as if Rice Chex gets soggier faster than Corn Chex. Anyway, I think part of the reason why Corn Chex is my favorite cereal is because growing up I was never really allowed to have the sugary cereals like Trix or Captain Crunch. I ended up liking Captain Crunch in college, but it made my mouth all raw after eating only 5 bowls :). I also detest any cereal that turns the milk another color. If I wanted chocolate milk, I'd get some hershey's syrup or nestle quik and dump it in there. Anyways, I think I'm just a big fan of corn cereal in general because I also enjoy Corn Flakes (wow, I really am boring), but they get soggier faster so only if I'm prepared to eat quickly do I indulge in Corn Flakes.
The nastiest cereal: Mueslix. (or maybe Kashi, no Mueslix).

What? No Internet?

Q: What did you do before we had the Internet?

A: Well, living in Silicon Valley I remember having the Internet when I was in Jr. High. I was obsessed. It was so cool back then, except I had a 50 hour a month limit, luckily I was the only one in the house that knew how to use it (my mom and older brother were clueless). I used to telnet to these chat room type things, but they called them "talkers." That was back when only the geeks, like me, were in the chat rooms. Ah...memories. Anyways, I'm not really answering the question.
First off, I want to say that my job would be very very dull without the Internet, especially lately, because I have a lot of downtime. But before the Internet, at least on the computer, I used to play games and buy computer games. I remember playing Oregon Trail, Monopoly, Myst, etc. Away from the computer, I did the same stuff I still do today. Write letters (yes, I still have some snail mail pen pals), go play with friends (well, I don't really call it "playing" anymore, heh), watch TV, watch movies, read books. I did have this really cool typerwriter that had an erase function. My dad had an Atari system with amber screen and we'd play like Donkey Kong, Pole Position, Pac Man, etc.
I don't know if life was necessarily better or worse back then, just different. I still love my Internet though :).

Oh the weather outside is......frightful?

Q: The weather today makes me feel...

A: Pretty good actually! I have this little weatherbug thing on my taskbar that says its 67 degrees outside. Its pretty nice here in Santa Barbara. Probably a good day to go to the beach, walk around State Street, or play basketball or soccer (if I had people to play with). The one thing that bugs me about the weather being so nice in Santa Barbara is that I don't really get time to enjoy it. I work 8-5, so by the time I get off work the sun is pretty much gone. I definitely am looking forward to daylight savings time. We really need to think about having daylight savings time year-round, yeah, at least in Santa Barbara :).

My Mentor

Q: Who is one person that has changed your life?

A: That person would be my grandma, Adele Colesberry. I always felt a special bond with her. She was always somewhat of a mentor to me. I remember when I was younger I would go to her house during the summer and she taught me how to sew, we would learn new recipes, and she brought me with her to her sewing group. She always listened to me and took time off from whatever she was doing to just sit and talk with me. Nobody else in my family really gets it sometimes. Nobody else takes time just to listen and really invest in eachother. She was always encouraging and always wanted to read my papers or talk about future goals, I never really got that kind of attention with my parents. It was nice I remember one time she told me that I was her mentor too in a way. I don't really know the impact of what I was to her, all I can say is that she has impacted my life in such a special way. I remember when she passed on that I wrote her a letter and put it in w/ her ashes in the wall at the cemetery. I don't remember the entirety of the letter, but I did say that if I ever have a daughter I would name her Adele. :)
